What is Instructional Design?
When I say 'I am an Instructional Designer', people confuse it with the term 'Interior Designer'. Even though there are a quite few similarities between these two roles, they belong to totally different business spaces. An interior designer plays a key role in designing the interior of a house or commercial space while an instructional design plays a key role in designing the learning elements for a learner (who can be a kid or a working person, or a woman from rural area).
When there is a need of training, an instructional designer comes into a picture. The instruction designer does the requirement analysis and comes up with a solution to training needs. The Instruction design field deals with the analysis of learner's training needs and provide the best solution so that the learner gets maximum out of it and acquires new knowledge and skills.
What are the skillsets for the Instructional Designer:
Requirement analysis:
What is the business problem?
What can be the best solution to solve the business problem?
How to implement the solution?
Content Analysis:
Review of existing content and finding gaps, if any
Curate content or write new content
